Let me allay your fears — I am not a psycho stalker. I am not obsessed with the gurus. But I do want to build some business contacts. I figured this would be a fun way to do it and to share the experiences I have along the way.
The header graphic was made by doing a 15 second exposure with my digital camera in a dark room and using a little keychain LED light to light myself up in a few different positions. The middle face (where you can only see the bottom) was actually too low in the frame to be seen when the photo was cropped, so I moved it up a little.
The lettering in the image was made separately using basically the same technique — I wrote the letters in the air using the keychain light. I had intended to write forwards to myself and flip the image once I got it onto the computer, but when I downloaded the image, I realized that without thinking about it, I’d written backwards to myself and forwards to the camera. Anyway, I then positioned the words over the rest of the image and composited them together by making the lightest pixels from either of the images show through.
I didn’t intentionally go for the rough grain in the image — that just happened naturally because of the very low light. But in the end, it seemed appropriate to the subject matter.
The picture was shot in the storage room in my basement.
I had originally intended to use a picture of myself peeking in my dining room window from a ladder, but it snowed last night, so I changed my mind and came up with this idea…which is probably better. There’s a lesson for you — be ready and willing to change your plans when necessary, and sometimes you’ll end up with something better.
