Guru-Stalker.com Out-Googles RussellBrunson.com For “Russell Brunson”

Is it possible to rank too high in Google? If so, I think I may have done it.
I created this website with the initial goal of establishing contact with Russell Brunson. And it worked. The site got me noticed, and in a month or so, you’ll see the concrete results (sorry, that’s all I’m saying for now). But I may have gone too far. I’ll tell you why, but first a little background.
When I set up the site, as I’ve said before, I pulled out my bag of SEO tricks and used RSS feeds to automatically pull in content focused on Russell. Within days, Guru-Stalker.com was at the top of Google when searching for his name in combination with a few other words (but not for just his name).
Then a few weeks ago, after not having updated the site in over three weeks, it took the #6 spot when searching just for his name.
On that day, I added some new CaRP powered content to a few of the pages — this time, YouTube videos tagged with Russell’s name. Since then, the site’s Google ranking for “Russell Brunson” has bounced up and down between #4 and about #17 on a daily basis (without my having made any manual updates — just the automatic stuff).
This morning, this site has the #3 spot in Google for “Russell Brunson”, behind only DotComSecrets.com and DotComSecrets.com/blog. Which brings me to why I may have gone too far — the #3 spot used to be owned by RussellBrunson.com. If I were trying to make enemies with Russell, that’d be great, but what will he think of someone booting his own site a little lower on the page when searching for his own name?
Okay, I’m not really worried. Maybe he won’t like it. Maybe he won’t care too much. But either way, I don’t think he’s going to get mad at me — he doesn’t seem like that type.
Anyway, here’s the lesson to be learned: a site that’s only seen two updates in over a month (one blog post, and the addition of YouTube videos to two pages) has moved up to the #3 spot in Google for its target keywords. I think CaRP works.

It just occurred to me that an appropriate gesture of goodwill would be to link to RussellBrunson.com. I’ve added “coolest guy on the planet” links to his site to two of my pages.

Hey Antone -
You crack me up. :) You need to create the guru-stalker seo course.

I can’t say that the thought of doing some sort of Guru-Stalker branded course hasn’t crossed my mind. The great thing about it would be that if it included videos, I could shoot them backlit like the videos I’ve posted on this site, so I wouldn’t have to change out of my PJs to make them!
Seriously though, someday when I’ve finished a few other projects, I’m sure I’ll put a little more thought into the possibilities.

Antone.
Well, that’s pretty funny, Russell responding to this sitcom directly on your own blog. And I agree that a guru-stalker SEO course should be PJ-friendly.
Anyway, I am, by the bye, the proud recent owner of CaRP, and I look forward to the day when I have figured out how to set it up. The whole RSS thingy has had me baffled for some time now. It’s like some kind of Remarkably Slippery Stuff that my peabrain has not successfully digested. But I am getting there. And CaRP is definitely my vehicle of choice — that is, once I have found the ignition . . . .

Here’s an experiment. I don’t even register in top 200 in google for “migraine”. I’ve only just started my migrainenews website. Tonight I’m goin to use carp to grab rss feeds from the top 10 migraine sites. I’ll monitor google listings every few days and give you a report.
You will then have an example to quote- if it works!

It’ll be interesting to see what happens! Of course, displaying feeds is just one part of making this all work — another is making sure Google’s looking at your page so they’ll see the fresh content…and posting comments on other people’s blog’s with links to your site (like you did here) is one way to do that.

Thanks Antone, I agree that it will require effort and that in the end of the day content is king. However, I think parsing is a brilliant idea, and Carp makes it straightforward.
