If your target guru has a blog, posting comments on it are a good way to get noticed. If they have a blog that allows comments, that’s an invitation to you to join in a conversation with them — don’t waste the opportunity.

Here are a few ideas for how to maximize the impact of your comments:

  • Pack your comments with as much value as possible — make comments that will enhance the value of their blog to their readers.
  • …but don’t write a 10 page essay and post it in their comments — keep it concise. If you’ve got more to say than will fit in a reasonably sized comment, post it in your blog, and post a summary in their comments with a link to your blog.
  • If both your blog and theirs support trackbacks or pingbacks, when you post on your blog, if your post contains a link to their blog entry, your comment and a link back to your blog may get posted to theirs automatically. To avoid duplication, check for that before posting your comment.
  • Comment regularly, as long as you’ve got something valuable to say. Repetition will make you more memorable, and frequent, consistent value will build your credibility.
  • If your target guru has multiple blogs, you might want to put a little thought into which one(s) to focus on. For example, if they have one where they post links to others’ blogs with a comment or two, and another where they write their own original content, I’d guess that they’ll be watching the comments on the latter more carefully than the former.

How am I using these ideas in my stalking of Russell Brunson?

First, I’m subscribed to his blog at http://www.dotcomsecrets.com/blog to watch for opportunities to comment, but he posts infrequently there, at least since late last year when I started stalking him. Does anyone know of any other blogs where Russell himself posts?

Second, I’m subscribed to the feed for his affiliate programs’ blog which his affiliate manager Brent Coppieters writes at http://www.thesecondtier.com/affiliateblog/ and have commented once there.
